TEHRAN – Marzieh Afkham, the former Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, is appointed as the new Iranian ambassador to Malaysia, becoming first Iranian woman who has been appointed to such as post since the Islamic Revolution in 1979.

Afkham is replaced by Hossein Jaber Ansari, who was the Foreign Ministry director general for the Middle East and North African affairs, ISNA reported on Wednesday.

She will take office as ambassador in two weeks.

Afkham has been the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman for two years.
